Social Media Mavens Meet-up

This past Sunday Holly from inthefunlane and I hosted an event for some of our favourite bloggers in town.

You know how you feel like you "know" some of the people you follow? It felt odd that I knew what their houses look like, how many kids they have, their favourite foods even what they did last weekend and yet we had never met!

We thought it would be a great idea to get us all under one roof so we could officially "meet." It was a blast! The entire afternoon, I couldn't help but think, "why haven't we done this sooner?"

We chatted about everything: mummy-hood, style, design, DIY, our love of each other's work and blogging of course!

The event was made even better with treats from Frickin Delights and Confetti Sweets. The ladies couldn't get enough!

We also had amazing suppliers come through in a major way with our swag bags. We wanted to represent the amazing independent brands that we love and adore and wanted to support. Some everyone knew but we added a few of our secret fav's too. The cherry on top was that most of them were Canadian!
I know I have already said but I need to say it again: I had so much fun with these ladies! Their creative insights, Instagram worthy outfits and genuine openness was a pleasure to be around. It was such a blessing to finally meet them in person. I feel like I met a bunch of new friends on Sunday, I can't wait for our next meet up!  Stay tuned!

  1. This looks so cool! I would love to meet more bloggers in the area! It seems like such a supportive community! I suppose I;m a media maven because I work in social media by day, and am trying to build my blog by night, all while raising a toddler, planning a wedding and trying to build a business. That feels pretty maven-y! I neeeeeed to come into your shop! Can't wait to come check it out!

  3. Just discovered you via Holly . I love that she is showing me a vibrant creative community right here in Alberta. So often Imlook longingly at far off places of inspiration . I have bogged as a photographer for a few years and this fall am transitioning my site away form clients and towards personal work and simple beauty that inspires me.

  4. I'm a media maven because I pretty much live life by the motto, "if it's not on Instagram, it didn't happen'! Love that ladies like you and Holly are presenting our city in such a fun and vibrant way.

  5. I love the internets because it's allowed me to make so many friends, some in real life too, that I never would have met otherwise. It can really be a fabulous tool for meeting like-minded people. I first met people through my blog, and even started a book club with people met on twitter. Now my new love is instagram! This event looked amazing! (I'd love to attend the next one, *wink, wink* ;) )

  6. In addition to becoming part of an amazing community of local fashion and lifestyle bloggers, I've used my blog and social media channels to build myself opportunities in Edmonton's fashion industry, as well as a 9-5 career and paid freelance work in social media and communications.

  11. Wow...I didn't realize there was so many local bloggers! I have a little neglected blog that I post my sewing projects to...lately it's mostly a feed from IG account, not so much actual blogging. It's hard to set aside time doing it since I work full time and have 2 little ones...but I'm so inspired to get it going again!

  16. Being a social media maven is an amazing way to network and connect with other local and international entrepreneurs, as well as people who are soulfully like-minded. We use our Instagram, Facebook Page and blog to reach out to those who are interested in green eco-friendly beauty. Our brand of botanical, cruelty-free, and all-natural potions and perfumes are handcrafted in Edmonton. As a writer, a lover of photography, and all things beautiful, social media is a haven to inspire and be inspired. What a great way to share our craft and support other women balancing motherhood and their thriving businesses. YEG is bursting with creative talent and business mojo- we are so thrilled to be in the midst of it all. Thank you!

  20. It looks like you all had a wonderful time. I must admit I am a little jealous, I live in a small town with little culture or diversity, therefore I live vicariously through blogs like yours. Keep up the great work.

  21. Jenna, your store is ultimate pretty! Although my focus is paper crafts and jewelry, I love everything pretty. There are sooooo many talented amazing people who I learn technique from everyday. And I love knowing that my sharing of techniques, style and creativity inspires others. How lucky are we?

  31. Being a media maven to me has been following people that inspire me online and using it to inspire my real life. So many ideas from other people have sparked a jumping-off point for me to create something in my real life. I'm not super into blogging yet, but I think using social media to better yourself and create content makes you a media maven - and once you do that someone else may glean something from you!

  44. I would consider myself a media maven because in the past two years, I have gone from the girl with the closed profile who didn't want to interact with the online world ( I was scared of stalkers, lol) to a girl with a big handful of followers who are so supportive and actually care what I wear and do in a day. I not only love my followers but the girls that I follow as well. I used to think, this small town Alberta girl doesn't have style or anything worthy of sharing that people will care about. But when I got confident and branched out, I was shocked by the people that accepted me with open arms.
I love this online community, but I also love my "real life" friends - I never want to replace them or get so caught up in social media that I miss out on life that is happening right in front of me. For me, being a media maven isn't about checking my IG, Twitter or FB a million times a day, its about living life that is happening here in front of me as well as sharing the beautiful snippets with the rest of the world. Hopefully there is another Edmonton meet up, I would love to come! xoxox misschrisycharms
